SC Perot wrote her book as a heartfelt exploration of how to rediscover joy when life feels uncertain and disconnected. Inspired by her own journey of rebuilding after loss, Styles of Joy blends personal stories, anthropological observations, and reflections on communal and individual joy. The book introduces the transformative CAPS Framework—Cultivate, Adopt, Protect, and Spread joy—guiding readers to examine their relationship with joy and uncover how it shapes their lives.
Through Styles of Joy, SC invites readers to see joy not as fleeting or superficial, but as a deeply meaningful practice that can bring vibrance, connection, and purpose back into their lives. The book is a celebration of shared experiences, thoughtful reflection, and the power of joy to heal, inspire, and transform.
Perot is a professor in Human and Organizational Development at Vanderbilt University—her alma mater and the place where she once studied under the same professors she now teaches alongside. She specializes in guiding students in their final years of school, equipping them with the tools and mindset to navigate life beyond graduation. Infusing her curriculum with a sense of joy and purpose, SC inspires her students to focus not just on their goals but on their dreams, helping them embrace a future filled with meaning and possibility.
SC is a Stanford Law School graduate who began her career practicing commercial real estate and corporate law. However, her true passion lay in pro bono work, where she dedicated herself to helping asylum seekers challenge conditions in border detention facilities. SC also represented clients throughout the asylum process, supporting victims of gang violence and sex trafficking as they worked to acclimate to life in the United States.
Perot is a self-proclaimed joy seeker and enthusiast, passionately exploring the small and big moments that bring happiness to life. She launched The Joy Hotline, a project that began with stickers placed around Manhattan asking people one simple question: What brings you joy? Since then, these stickers have spread across the country, inspiring countless text messages, voice memos, and voicemails.
While some responses are playful or unexpected, the ones that resonate most deeply are messages of gratitude—callers thanking an anonymous stranger for giving them a reason to pause and reflect on joy. Through this project, SC continues to spark meaningful conversations about joy, encouraging others to discover and embrace what lights them up.
SC Perot proudly embraces her identity as a fangirl, finding joy and connection in the shared experiences of fandom. As a dedicated Harry Styles fan, she’s traveled the globe to attend his concerts, experiencing firsthand the power of music to unite and uplift. For SC, being a fangirl isn’t just about admiration—it’s about celebrating the moments that bring people together, spark joy, and remind us of the beauty in collective experiences. Whether in the front row or singing along from the crowd, she sees fandom as a vibrant expression of joy in its purest form.
We often forget that joyful living is an option—that it’s something we can choose and cultivate in our lives. Deep down, you know there’s more to experience, more to give, and more to share with the world.
I’m here to help you tap into that joy, to guide you toward a life that feels vibrant and meaningful. Together, we can explore what brings you happiness, connection, and fulfillment—and in doing so, you’re not just enriching your own life, but also contributing to the Macro Joy we all share. Every act of joy you cultivate adds to a ripple effect that uplifts not only you, but those around you.
